Why do awesome crap movies all have Repo in the title?

Author: Sterling Heltzel | Filed under: Uncategorized

Last year, Darren Lynn Bousman’s Repo! The Genetic Opera was about as awesome as it possibly could have been with the level of studio interference Lionsgate imposed on it, even though it was a disaster on all fronts. It’s so bad it’s good it’s bad it’s good. I love it and not because it’s just bad. Now early reviews coming in for Alex Cox’s sequel to Repo Man with the rather blunt title Repo Chick, which David Lynch decided to co-produce (with this and My Son My Son What Have Ye Done?, are you becoming a parody of yourself, David?), is getting thrashed at the Venice Film Festival, but damn, am I excited now.

Shot almost entirely on green screen with a shoestring budget and RED cameras, Variety’s Leslie Felperin liked it far more than one could possibly imagine, saying “A wacky blend of leftist, anti-establishment politics, eye-searing colors, outre costumes and manic overacting, Repo Chick could be likened to what you would get if Michael Moore directed an episode of Nick Jr.kiddie series Lazy Town.”

And to top it all off, the plot is really, really weird:

Unfortunately, for reasons too complicated to explain, the pic morphs halfway through into a thriller spoof, as Pixxi goes in pursuit of a stolen antique train that’s being used to carry missiles by a gang of environmental terrorists. The terrorists’ ultimate demands are for the President of the United States to close all golf courses (providing the opportunity for a ranting message against the wastefulness of golf), ban the sport entirely and also make the entire government go vegan.

How stupid does that sound? It sounds as stupid as it could possibly be, like bad porn without the porn. These images re-inforce that.

“Don’t ever see “Repo Chick” unless you like model trains, valley girls, and bad green screen.” – @KyleWhite

“The mere fact that some films are never distributed and ‘a relief. Repo Chick How did you get into Horizons??” – @cinemablog_org (translated from Italian)

I like model trains, valley girls, and bad green screen. So go me.
