Can movie advertisements get any more retarded?

I know that a Neveldine/Taylor movie about a video game where you control inmates in a fight to the death will be absolutely terrible, it’s an inevitability that I cannot deny, despite the fact that you clearly have Michael C. Hall doing a dance number. It does figure that the ad campaign features something so mind-numbingly stupid that it makes the film look much more idiotic than it possibly could actually be. What I’m talking about? The fact that for the audience of this movie, historical dates are completely arbitrary and only the target demo wouldn’t catch on to the shamelessness of the wordplay used in this particular commercial. Commercial and what the heck I’m talking about after the jump.
“Gerard Butler hasn’t been this bad-ass…in 300 years.” So…the French and Indian War? I get it, they’re making a reference to Butler’s claim to fame, the shock hit “300″ from 2007. But…300 didn’t come out 300 years ago, it didn’t take place 300 years ago, it has nothing to do with anything on the timeline of history. There were 300 spartans in the mythfact? that the film and the graphic novel explores, but as long as you can throw the 300 connection in there some way, any way, well, that’s good enough for the guys at Lionsgate. Sure.
Also, I lied. The TV spot isn’t online (yet) but I’ve seen it, lots of others have, take our words for it.
