Al Franken is good at this senate thing apparently.

Today on The Rachel Maddow Show, guest host Ana Marie Cox pointed out something that isn’t getting much media attention. A video of Al Fraken speaking to a group of tea partiers about healthcare, and it wasn’t a dumb freakshow. These people had legitimate questions, because Franken made them. He would answer them with facts and logic and really talk to them, and thus they opened up. The discourse they have is amazing, and while some guy brought up the whole ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS OMG thing, he managed to discuss it perfectly. While most Democratic senators have proven to be entirely worthless while Republican senators have proven to be real life trolling whores, Franken, the guy everyone seems to want to try to discredit as some sort of political joke, is to the surprise of some I’m sure but not to me, is doing terrific. The man is taking this job seriously, and is ironically one of the only ones who is. But why is this getting very little attention? Republicans talking to a Democratic senator and it not being some stupid battle cry? Because that’s no fun. The media doesn’t like that. They like when Michele Bachmann says crazy shit in the same state. I’m guilty of this, as I posted Bachmann before I posted this, and I’m sorry. Fact is, these town halls aren’t all freak shows, and these Republicans aren’t all Glenn Beck crazy humpers. There’s a middle ground here and Franken’s doing it perfectly. He’s probably the senate’s most progressive Democrat (Bernie Sanders is an [I]), and yet he’s also the one who’s thinking full circle about issues that conservatives SHOULD be thinking about when criticizing the public option. The video after the jump.
