The top 45 films of 2009 (as of 8/22)
Author: Sterling Heltzel | Filed under: Uncategorized
I’ve only seen three 2009 movies this month. That’s rather pitiful, I must admit, but I deal with it. Really only feel like I need to see District 9 and then I’ve gotten my quota of stuff worth seeing from 2009 out of the way except for the stuff I have no way to see at the moment, like Whatever Works. My order’s changed a little, and Inglourious Basterds and Julie & Julia aimed to commit some gangbusters on this list. After jump, you know what to do.

Watchmen in the top ten = instant loss of credibility.

Watchmen is beautiful. I’m assuming if you had seen The Last House on the Left, you would have it in the “rotten” category? I also love your new logo for Post Avant. That was my favorite scene of Inglourious Basterds.

You thought the acting was terrible, it wasn’t.
The film is really only good because the source material is so great, and unlike most Alan Moore spectacles, it didn’t completely fail as an adaptation, meaning it was great by default. I still hate the shit out of Zack Snyder.

If you’re talking to me about thinking the acting was terrible, I did. Only with Monica Potter. And I just have a disgust for remakes. “Re-Imaginings” or “Re-adapting” a book or graphic novel because the originals sucked is fine with me.

I’m talking to sir Cameron.
I’m boycotting Last House on the Left so Steven can worry himself into a stupor.

You changed up a lot of rankings. You said Fanboys would have been one of the 5 best movies of 2008 if it had been released then, but it has already fallen to #11 of 2009 after only 45 movies. I’m also kind of surprised The Brother’s Bloom fell from #1. I finally got to see Adventureland a few weeks ago, very good.

2009 has been a good year. 2008 had a few really fantastic movies that 2009 has yet to even scratch at the door of, but the rest was pretty piss poor. Repo! The Genetic Opera has creeped to my top 10 for fuck’s sake.
