If you’ve seen this summer’s “breakthough”, boy is that word thrown around, comedy the “Hangover” then the man pictured above should look familiar to you.
His name is Zacharius Knight Galifianakis and to most he is the odd, portly man who wears a jock-strap and is refered to as “fat Jesus” in the “Dude Where’s My Car” ripoff of this summer (And in my opinion, he and the Dan Band are the highlight of an average at best flick).
These ignorant Americans who think that are the same individuals who thought the “Hangover” was the funniest thing they’ve ever seen (Trust me if you’ve seen a trailer for the movie, then you’ve essentially seen every funny part of the film).
Galifianakis NEEDS to be described as the comedian whose stand up and interwoven antics are the most radically ritious humor since the severly underappreciated Andy Kaufman.
Galifianakis’ shows are famous for his unpredictability. He does everything under the comedy rainbow such as delievering the deadpan one-liner, creating and sometimes even dressing up like bizzare characters, jotting his eccentric thoughts on a giant notepad, somberly playing priceless tunes on the piano, verbally assualting audience members, and even going on the ocassional profanity-laced rant. But the way he combines all of the above into one great big muddled eruption is what makes his comedy so memorable.
An uninformed observer of Galifianakis’ standup may be thinking, “Did this deranged, bearded chap even rehearsed this jumbled tirade?” (Yes, my uninformed observer is from the roaring twenties if you couldn’t tell by his dialogue).
That is the genius of Galifianakis; that even he himself doesn’t quite know what is going to happen.
I invite anyone who is a fan of the “Hangover”- or better yet a fan of laughter in general- to watch the 2005 film “The Comedians of Comedy”. It is a documentary of the comedy tour that featured Patton Oswald, Brian Posehn, Maria Bramford- who are all very funny in their own right- and of course, the insanely, jolly jester himself, Zach Galifianakis. In the movie, the crew hits up smaller indie-rock venues rather than the traditional comedy club on tour of the U.S. The cramped laughing quarters doesn’t stop this movie from being possibly the most hilarious comedy tour documentary ever made.
Galifianakis also has a history on the boob tube. He stared on the short-lived “Dog Bites Man”, which should have received more love, and has also made appearances on such ingenious shows as “Tom Goes to the Mayor” and it’s offspring “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”.
He has a series of talk-show like videos called “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis” on funnyordie.com where he conducts obviously staged interviews with popular celebrities. In these interviews he tries to make things as awkward as possible by being completely inapporpriate and unprofessional.
So please America, through all my suggestion, try to appreciate the true Zach Galifianakis before he completely sells out to Hollywood mainstream and becomes the next Adam Sandler.

The negativity towards The Hangover seems quite out of place in a piece praising Galifianakis. Zach helped craft the Alan character and many of his lines in the film come from his stand up act.

I have to agree with Cameron on this one, Cody.

It was meant as to inform the public that he isn’t just the highlight of an average at best movie and to show the true Galifianakis (Esentially his roots).

The public is most thankful! To see a completely different side of Zach Galifianakis, be sure to check out his turn in the indie comedy Visioneers – http://www.visioneersthemovie.com
