Box Office Predictions for July 24-26

Author: Sterling Heltzel | Filed under: Uncategorized

What can you expect at the box office this weekend? You can expect us to out-predict Box Office Addicts, the Evan Tubben ran box office site with “expert analysis”. Get ready to be pwned, sir.

G-Force is bound to make 28 million with the blitz of child-marketing and the Disney force that made Beverly Hills Chihuahua make a boatload last year. The Ugly Truth and The 40 Year Old Dwarf Hooker both have their genre conventions locked up too, and will both do the numbers they’re expected, in what is pretty much an incredibly boring weekend.

1. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: 35,100,000 (-54.9%)
2. G-Force: 28,600,000 (OPENER)
3. The Ugly Truth: 18,300,000 (OPENER)
4. Orphan: 16,100,000 (OPENER)
5. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: 10,500,000 (-40.1%)
6. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: 7,900,000 (-42.4%)
7. The Hangover: 6,300,000 (-23.5%)
8. The Proposal: 5,400,000 (-34.6%)
9. Public Enemies: 4,500,000 (-41.9%)
10. Bruno: 3,000,000 (-64.5%)

Expanding:
500 Days of Summer: 1,800,000 (85 theaters)
The Hurt Locker: 1,700,000 (238 theaters)

  4. Hunch Says:

Order dropped almost 58% (just checked BOM), and this is having worse weekday drops, plus, HBP’s OD was 14m bigger than OotP’s, but they had a 3-day weekend separated by just a few hundred thousand.

They’re projections, I didn’t make them bias to my predictions. Do you think you’ll have a higher score with actuals?
